Bill Heads For Third Reading
1st July 2005
The Consumer Credit Bill is to receive its report and third reading in the House of Commons on 14th July. The third reading provides an opportunity for all M.P's to propose amendments to the Bill. Debt on our Doorstep is urging supporters to continue to lobby their M.P's for amendments that would:
Put in place a clear requirement for all lenders to take account of the ability of a borrower to repay prior to making a loan (exactly why would anyone object to that!!?), and
Enable the Government to introduce interest rate ceilings should through regulations if the proposed 'unfair' credit test fail to protect low income borrowers.
If your M.P is sympathetic to these proposals then please let us know.
