Taking on the Sharks
Since its foundation in 1999, Debt on our Doorstep has facilitated discussion concerning the problems of high interest lending and put forward policy ideas to address this. We have consistently argued the need for Government to adopt a joined up approach to the problem; linking better regulation of the credit industry with initiatives to expand the provision of affordable credit - including placing duties on banks to provide services in local income communities. We have done a considerable amount of work on the case for interest rate ceilings, and have recently published a major set of policy recommendations for responsible credit. Our main policy documents are listed below together with details of parliamentary motions that we have supported.
